I find this absolutely deplorable! The state of Pennsylvania seems to think that allowing prisoners to participate in rock bands somehow promotes rehabilitation and prevents disciplinary problems during incarceration.
How about this...
How about we knock the shit out of the bastards when they cause trouble in prison, stick their asses in solitary confinement for a few weeks and after that, sentence them to hard labor that will benefit the community?? What ever happened to chain gangs?? What ever happened to prisons that were institutions of punishment as opposed to resort hotels complete with weight rooms, televisions and rock band promotion?
I think the state of Pennsylvania and VH1 are slapping the faces of every family victimized by the bastards who make up this "rock band"; I can't imagine watching the rapist and murderer of my child on national television living it up while supposedly being punished for the crime. It's absurd, and it's wrong!
Rehabilitation, if it's even possible, should focus on social and occupational skills that will allow an ex-convict a better opportunity for reintegration into society in a productive capacity. I can't see how being allowed to look, dress and act like drugged out rock stars has any hope of promoting such a rehabilitation.
It seems to me that the state of Pennsylvania is simply appeasing a bunch of convicts in order to keep them from being disruptive to the system. That would suggest our prisoners are running the prison system and NOT the authorities. As a tax paying citizen, I expect and will insist that our prisons act as the punitive establishments we're paying for, and not recreational facilities that make a mockery of our justice system.
Posted by Cranky at October 17, 2002 11:30 AMwhats your problem? i respect victims and their families but i also respect prisoners. thats right i respect prisoners rights not to bne treat inhumanely and cruely, unlike you. That you would suggest that we beat and confine all prisoners is ludictous and cruel. Maybe you missed the part of the constitution refusing cruel and unusual punishment. Furthermore, the fact that prisoners are allowed to participate in a rock band does support rehabilitation. It allows criminals to practice social skills that make them more acceptable in society and studies show that those skills make prisoners less likely to commit crimes again. while the fact that tey would be allowed to play on TV is appaling your closed mindedness makes mee..
