Nellie is still in the hospital, but at our visit today we actually saw her wag her tail a couple of times, so that's a big improvement! They think she'll be home on Friday. We even thought we saw a tiny bit of movement to her back legs, and the surgeon said she thought she saw a bit yesterday, so we're hopeful she's on her way to a complete recovery.
There will be lots of physical therapy to do once she's home, from exercising her legs manually, to swimming in the tub, so it's going to be a little hectic, but we think she's worth it.
Six weeks of crate rest for a dog that's used to chasing bunnies and zooming around the house won't be easy, but we've got some nice new chew toys and bones for her to work on while she's taking it easy.
Posted by Cranky at October 16, 2002 07:59 PMHooray! What wonderful news!! ::Wagging my tail, too!!::
Posted by: Zuly on October 16, 2002 08:48 PMYou got bunnies. I got squirrels. Evil squirrels. Squirrels that taunt Hensley.
All the homes around us have wooden privacy fences around the back yards. The squirrels have learned to use the tops of the fences as a freeway, quickly running all over the neighborhood via fence top. It is something to see.
And of course, as they vector into the House of Love...certain black and tan dachshunds go insane.
And the squirrels know the cannot get them... so they stop and I swear the taunt him.
These squirrels are the work of the devil.
However, I did save that one from the evil nasty street cat the other day.

Posted by: Suzy on October 17, 2002 08:29 AMGreat news! Michael and I are very happy to hear that Nellie seems to be on a good path. Psycho Kitty--an avowed canine hater--has even declared a moratorium on dog bashing...I actually caught him chatting online about Nellie with Taxi and Ocho last night.
Posted by: Mad Genius on October 17, 2002 08:36 AMAwesome news, Tess.
Jazz and Ocho can't exactly *wag* their tails, but they're definitely bouncing up and down over the good news.
Posted by: Kelly on October 17, 2002 08:42 AMYay! Yay! Yay! While Darth Vadar and Abe Vigoda are not particularly fond of dogs, they got up on their back legs and loudly meowed when they heard the news!
