Spare Me

After an in-depth analysis and grueling examination of the facts, drawing data from a study lasting approximately 9 1/2 minutes, over the course of 37 years, I can say without question that televised bowling has the same effect on my central nervous system that Valium does.

Yeah, that plus American "football".

Odd choice of name really, given that they generally carry the ball.

Stoppage-ball might be more appropriate, given that they seem to run about four feet then stop.

Could be worse; it could have been golf.

I can think of one more soporific televised sport: curling!

I actually find golf more entertaining than bowling....at least on television. I love to bowl though.

Astute observation. I think the game might almost be interesting to watch if it weren't for the sleepier than sleepy announcers.

But Max ... curling? As a Canadian, I must object. It's a fast-paced game of immense strategy. Plus, it's on ice. Now that alone is cool. Best of all, you can drink and smoke while you're playing.

Thanks for the tip! Should save me a boatload at the pharmacy.

My sport-Valium would have to be baseball. Talk, spit, talk some more, throw the ball, throw the ball back, talk, scratch, spit and so-forth. Although, the announcers are much livelier than the bowling ones.
I do think curling is a hoot, though.

Televised golf'll drop me into a coma like nothing else. Well, besides actual golf...

televised golf is my sleep-inducer. something about the soothing whisper of the announcer. puts me right out.

*lightbulb* why have i never thought of taping golf for those insomniac nights?

I can't stay awake for more than 5 minutes in front of the TV no matter what is on.

LMAO!!!!

I suspect that the enjoyability of televised bowling -- like that of golf -- is proportional to the amount of actual bowling one does or has done.

Though the scenery on a golf course is usually prettier to look at than a bowling alley.

I have to agree with Tess: televised bowling just makes me sleepy as does golf. Maybe it's the burgeoning alcoholic in me, but I enjoy games which you can drunkenly yell and scream at someone (usually a ref)--like football, hockey and baseball. Then again, I also scream and yell at the players during "Jeopardy", but not enibriated... mostly. :)

Curling: now it's interesting that someone brought that up. I was futzing through the channels during the olympics and came across the sport. After some slow-paced sweeping of the ice, some slowly moving 90 lbs. object on ice, then a bunch of people in speedos hugging each other like they just accomplished some great feat, my reaction was "What the f--k?"

Then, I got to talk to a Canadian about it. And I said to her, "What the f--k is up with curling, man, and why the hell were they hugging so happily?" She explained to me the rules of the game (quite a bit more complicated than meets the eye) and the amount that physics plays a role in the strategy of the game. Although pleased with my newfound knowledge and appreciation for it actually being a sport, I probably still wouldn't watch it for long periods of time--only because I wouldn't know who to drunkenly yell at. :)

Consistently odd,

Frog
